Alberson races to runner-up finish in Freedom Classic opener at Salina

Garrett Alberson invaded Salina Highbanks Speedway (Salina, Okla.) on Friday afternoon to return with the Lucas Oil Midwest Late Model Racing Association (MLRA) for the two-day Freedom Classic. Following the third fastest time in qualifying, Garrett dropped two spots in his heat race to finish fourth. With $3,000 on the line in the opening night feature, Alberson passed five cars in the 30-lap affair to register a runner-up finish, trailing Tony Jackson Jr. to the checkers. On Saturday evening, Alberson clocked in third fastest overall before picking up an eight-lap heat race victory. Starting the $5,000-to-win A-Main in third, Garrett ran into engine issues in the early stages of the 40-lapper that saw him pull off on lap 14.

Garrett sits in second in the latest Lucas Oil MLRA point standings.
