Top-5 finish with Lucas Oil MLRA at 81 Speedway
Friday night found Rodney Sanders in action at 81 Speedway (Park City, Kan.) with his Super Late Model unloaded for the two-day Heartland Hustle. Drawing 39 Lucas Oil Midwest LateModel Racing Association (MLRA) entries, Sanders followed up the third-fastest lap overall with a heat race win. Losing two spots in the 30-lap feature, Rodney recorded a fourth-place finish. He trailed Bobby Pierce, Ryan Gustin, and Chase Junghans to the checkers with Johnny Scott coming in fifth. Competing in his Late Model along with his Modified on Saturday, Rodney came in sixth in his Late Model heat before streaking to a 10-lap consolation victory. Starting the $7,000-to-win A-Main in 18th, Sanders was an early retiree on lap 14.
In his Modified, Sanders raced from the fifth-to-second in the 20-lap feature, trailing 0.611 seconds behind race-winner Tanner Mullens.
